Message from the President This
will be our last eNews for this year. Over the past year I have
attempted to produce an eNews about every three weeks, much more
frequently than the pre digital age when the Trust printed a newsletter
about four times a year. I have found that there is always something to
report on and in this edition there is no exception.
With the current bushfires and predicted dry summer, I strongly
recommend that you download the ‘Fire near me” app on your electronic
devices if you haven’t done so already. CLICK HERE
I have as yet, had no feedback from Dominic Perrottet’s office on
various outstanding matters. What with the current bushfire crises, I
will delay contacting his office until the new year.
The police reports this month contain some useful statistics and is worth reading.
Hornsby Council’s eNews advertises the Development Application for the
proposed earthworks at the Hornsby Quarry site. If you are interested in
this unique 40ha asset then make a submission. I however, will not
be commenting, as I am the community representative on the Sydney North
Planning Panel, which will be the determining authority instead of
Council, I would have an obvious conflict of interest if I made a
submission.
Finally, I have registered the Trust again for Clean Up Australia on Sunday morning 3rd March 2020. As in previous years we will once again set up in the Beecroft Village Green.

Christmas trees – Beecroft Scouts – this coming weekend A message from Beecroft Scouts who will be selling Christmas trees again this year at the Cheltenham Scout hall. CLICK HERE for details.
Ahimsa – 40th Anniversary – Sunday 19th November 2019 The
day was a success with people coming and going throughout the day.
Ahimsa is the former home of Marie Byles who died 40 years ago. Before
Marie died she arranged for the property to be transferred to the
National Trust. Hornsby Council’s Mayor Philip Ruddock and
Councillors Emma Heyde and Robert Browne were also able to attend. Morning tea at the Hut of the Happy Omen
Two
relatives of Marie Byles came along to talk about Marie’s life but the
surprise was meeting Helen Philips who was Marie’s locum solicitor and
later, the purchaser of her Eastwood practice. Helen reminisced about
regularly visiting Marie after work at Ahimsa to discuss work matters.
Helen sold the practice after she was appointed a magistrate. Helen
enjoyed talking to Philip Ruddock about various women who had notable
careers in the legal profession. From
